Mindset yet again.

I wrote this sometime ago, Now I can see that I m applying growth mindset to different areas of my life successfully. I see experiments and efforts for what they are and not as failures. Its a bit hard to not feel scared of not knowing something at work. but I m less ashamed to ask and find out.  I see it especially in water colour painting. I m practicing without any fear or failure. I m enjoying just colouring rectangles to practice flat wash or graded wash. I didnt fold up the books when my first 10 flat washes were horribly streaky :-)
Mushroom growing - it took me a while to overcome the fixed mindset. I let it sleep for 6 months thinking this is too hard, but now I m keen to try and willing to fail.
                                                               == * == * ==

Reading this book Mindset . This will be life changing. I have heard about this and read about this before but I am in the right frame of mind to accept this now?
I was on this same track already when I wrote this

http://mystic-babe.blogspot.com/2019/10/effort-goals.html
fixed mindset problems
value talent over effort
1) I got marks without studying - hence I am very smart
the people to studied and worked hard are not as smart as me.
2) I am ashamed of not knowing things , looking up how to do, or not being good at something untill I learn it. I have to be through with my learning as well,
3) I am not interested in looking smart but I am interested in not looking dumb, being fooled is my biggest( :P ) fear, being used manipulated - Is this fixed mindset? may be not - but why do I chose to be afraid of this even when I am 40+  Why cant I learn to deal with this?

Individuals with a fixed mindset seek to validate themselves.
Individuals with a growth mindset focus on developing themselves.
And you secretly feel threatened and envious of the success of others.

Here’s list of questions to help you adopt an orientation toward growth (collected from various sections throughout the Mindset book):
  • What can I learn from this?
  • What steps can I take to help me succeed?
  • Do I know the outcome or goal I’m after?
  • What information can I gather? And from where?
  • Where can I get constructive feedback?
  • If I had a plan to be successful at [blank], what might it look like?
  • When will I follow through on my plan?
  • Where will I follow through on my plan?
  • How will I follow through on my plan?
  • What did I learn today?
  • What mistake did I make that taught me something?
  • Is my current learning strategy working? If not, how can I change it?
  • What did I try hard at today?
  • What habits must I develop to continue the gains I’ve achieved?

Consistent Practice/Diligent Effort + Right Method = Growth
As Maslow articulated, when the delight of growth is greater than the anxiety of safety, we choose growth.

another Mantra from Mindset book ( This way it will get to #1 spot on my fav book list )
Its Hard! Its Fun!

What are my beliefs??? Are they fixed or growth ?
In some/ many areas I have growth mindset - In intelligence - atleast mine ;-) , I believe I can grow, Spiritual ability , Creativity, Drawing Painting - everybody's :D  I believe everyone can grown. Sports and Physical - Mixed, I believe there is some innate talent, but everyone can be much much better than what they are. This has changed since my childhood when I firmly believed I was un coordinated and that I couldn't dance. Some how after age 30 I started dancing well! he he frankly I don't know If I dance well at all actually I enjoy dancing, my co ordination also has improved, I would call myself sporty, I am very good at new sports even paddle boarding, ppl even asked me if I had done it before. So I am a proof so to speak. Drawing - I was reasonably good from before but  I have seen some people improve like crazy. Also there is the bizarre case of my friend who is like absolultey amazing at drawing but has a 5 year olds handwriting!
So inspite of this, I have fixed mindset in lot of areas of life - personality - coping ability, bravery, control on anger and moods, being good natured, social skills, Music ( How can this be! really!!  if Drawing can be picked up by anyone by training in the right way, why can't they pick up music? ! I am smart but see How blind I can be? )

Early Indians

I am reading Early Indians, We are still talking about first humans migrating out of Africa. I notice every instance where humans succeed is a time of some kind of disaster. It got really cold and dry due to Ice age( one of many ) severe resource constraint,This may have given humans an edge over Neanderthals. Volcanic eruption lead to temperature dropping a few degrees and acid rain for years after, this may have lead humans to establish themselves better over Homo Erectus etc again and again. If life went smoothly Humans would never be able to replace displace Archaic human species Or probably never evolve at all.
Its not just Humans, Its probable some kind of disaster which lead to evolution and prevalence of Neanderthals as well.. Good times lead to lot of mutations surviving and lot of diversity. and then disaster culls them, selects only the fittest.
Humans evolved from a small population of few thousands, so did Neanderthals.  Even tho the evolutionary tree has many branches, only one branch seems to survive most of the times. How does even that one branch survive? Phew!  how does life go on at all in spite of all these extinctions and deaths!

Where is Richard Bach

Used to be a rage once upon a long time ago. I lapped him up like crazy. He seems to be completely out of circulation these days.
I loved his books, Jonathan Livingstone Sea Gull, The One, Bridge across for ever. The One made me feel sooo peaceful and that peace lasted for months, I was like a rock on the middle of river, unshakable.
The bridge across was all about out of body experiences. He wrote it all as real, I read it all as fiction, I loved it :-)
But now I know its all real ! :-) I like it but it does not blow my mind like that. It was also about past lives and soul mates and such, past lives I like soul mates.. meh! considering he divorced the woman :D he too .. meh! :D :P
The one was about Multiple dimensions. That was really something.. I loved how it all related to a pilot and his small bi-plane.. .
Nice nostalgia thinking about him. Richard Bach you were good, trends and memes they too pass, fortunately, unfortunately.
I miss you Richard Bach!

Osho

Is horrible. At least what he says just doesnot gel with me. What Buddha said... Introduction to Buddha was quite accurate, He is a scientist etc. Except it was told in 10 times more words than necessary. Ok.

When talking about Buddha, He talks about how a child are most comfortable in mothers womb and how he(HE)  is not free from the womb untill he find a wife. How mother can never forgive a wife bla bla bla such shit. This is Ekta kapoor serial level shit, What about daughters? I dont see any mother holding a grudge against a son in law? He talks of this shit as if it is absolute truth
If Buddha is a scientist, Osho is a rubbish B grade story teller :-)  Just so full of bull shit.  This is just one example, I tried to listen to one hour talk, It didnt have even one minute of What Buddha said, It has full hour of shit about celibacy, this kind of jealousy crap and , bramhins(?) and all sorts of rubbish. How to people tolerate him??!
This is my second and last attempt, I had to take second chance because some people I really respect seem to feel he is good. He just seems like a crap charlatan on drugs to me. So angry :-)

Teen movies

If it is not all about looks then why does the ugly duckling girl with great personality get the totally handsome guy and not another ugly duckling guy with great personality? :-P
Moral of the story is - NOT - looks dont matter. personality does!!
It is - Dont worry if you are ugly duckling there is a totally handsome guy for you?

Teen movies!! Sheesh!

Happiness book by Matthieu Ricard

How do know if you are truly altruistic and not doing for credit or to assuage guilty feelings?
You will feel happy and not disappointed if someone else does the good deed you were about to do. This is the official test for altruism.
Apparently 15% of the ( western, they havent tested other countries)  population is truly altruistic .

 -  Happiness book by Matthieu Ricard

which I am not liking much :D because some stupid saint let himself be burnt in place of a thief in the book. Grr Do we have to be stupid to be alturistic? Dude Saint! because of you, now my house is robbed?  etc kind of thoughts coming :D  Also he has gone little overboard selling how good it is to be optimistic and how bad to be pessimistic. I being completely sold on Hinayana Buddhism, want to look at good feelings and bad feelings with equanimity, but Tibetan buddhism is little bit like bhakti yoga focusing on helping others, somehow implying we shud cultivate good. I agree I need to cultivate loving kindness and metta ( I am on it peeps)  and that it makes people happy. but ultimately happy is just as false as fear or anger? Or not? anyway I want that wisdom which tells me the answer to that.

Detachment vs Love

Avatar the last air bender. Its an amazing animation series. Spiritual, incorporating Eastern Buddhist culture-remix perfectly. They got one thing wrong. that is the thing that almost everyone in the west, for that matter almost everyone ( Except me >:-) ) gets wrong.
This is the basic fear about spirituality for almost everyone  ( except may be a few  peeps like - me ;-D )
"Letting go and being spiritual means not loving a person, detachment means not loving anyone and becoming a zombie." The series got everything right but they are showing personal love as greater than enlightenment. and I dont like that.

If this is wrong then how does it really work? Is it really wrong?
Not exactly, we in our small minds love individuals, our children, our parents, one person we choose as partner etc, this is celebrated as the greatest virtue, It may - in the context of non expanded small minds.
but to enlighten the mind and go beyond right and wrong, then this love probably goes, then our child is as lovely as the neighbours child, they probably genuine feel as sad when they read about 15 dead in car accident as when they hear their parents demise. Or probbaly not feel bad at all in both cases.
When they let go of the personal love, they are filled with universal love, unconditional love for one and all, for all beings not just humans but even for small pox virus and ugly slimy slug which eats their strawberries.

This state is not a zombie state at all, this is a very high level, very superior, very beyond the confines of the small mind kind of love, this is the avatar kind of love.  you and I dont have to fear this because fearing this is like starting couch to 5k for running and fearing that you will break Ussain bolts record and make him feel bad :-D :-D :-D  This is out of our league. ( Unless some enlightened person is reading this, then Sorry :-P )

Love for one person is never greater than love for all, may be be mothers love for her baby, may be be savitri s love for her husband bringing him back from the dead, all these have the self and selfishness at their heart. it is "your" love. It is never ever greater than compassion and love for all beings like the bodhisatvas have. never.

same old problem with Bahubali

Bahubali movie is great and amazing and all that. but then again I have the same old problem with it, the greatness of blood lines, glorification of royal blood yadda yadda yadda
Same rant about Game of Thrones Jon Snow
http://mystic-babe.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/inheritance-game-of-thrones-spoiler.html

Have u seen how super human Bahubali is, not just him, his uncle, grand uncle are also super duper strong. Why? because he is kings son.
Were these kind of stories told in old days to fool people into believing that royalty was some kind of super human superior being. much bigger than normal people? Was it a propaganda an advertising campaign to keep normal people in their places? Even today lot of people believe good things happen if kind saw them, touched them etc. everyone is crazy about blood lines.

lumosity

I have signed up for this too, I think this may also  be part of freeing up mind thing that is going on.. but its not obvious.
Its addictive, like all games are. Its fun, and I already feel my brain bulging and its fitting tighter in my skull ( err that might just be the cold and the groggy head! :P ) anyway it promises to help me remember where my keys are and improve my attention to peripheral vision ( which is right now zero) no tip of the tongue words, they will flow right thru.. ok ok :) cool! for price of coffee and in the time to drink it. I m getting all this! cool!  Ill try it!
Ive always felt, video games are a waste of time, useless,
people who play video games are useless, snobby geeks.
but I have signed up for playing computer games everyday for 15 minutes.. by this, I am now grudging conceding that may be video games did help them develop their brains better! Grr.

Allright, its allright to change ur opinions, its a sign of openness and progress :P

Free Myself

Free free free!
How do I break free?
I have heard this many times "the only person who is limiting u is u.."

Everything seems to be converging on that.. Do we have to learn acting/drawing/singing??? no! we just have to allow ourselves to do it.
Its shocking! how we stop ourselves from being good and wonderful by limiting ourselves with too much conscious control ,our brain unfortunately is designed that way.

  • Drawing on the right side of the brain.
  • Inner game of tennis

These are two books which talk about this freeing ourselves but in a scientific way. In brain language.  off-course all the spiritual books talk about this all the time, its the same thing but sounds different. Thats what  I want to prove - that what spiritual books are talking bout and what these books say, is the same thing.

The books call this, letting the right brain do the job, while making the usually dominant left brain, shut up.
from wiki
Edwards's method of drawing and teaching was revolutionary when she published it in 1979. It received an immediate positive response, and is now widely accepted by artists, teachers, and others around the world. Underlying the method is the notion that the brain has two ways of perceiving and processing reality — one verbal and analytic, the other visual and perceptual. Edwards' method advocates suppressing the former in favor of the latter. It focuses on disregarding preconceived notions of what the drawn object should look like, and on individually "seeing" edges or lines, spaces, relationships, and lights and shadows, later combining them and seeing them as a whole, or gestalt.[3]
I think right/left brain is a bit of a simplistic divide( wiki says this too). I like the ego/sub-super-conscious divide. however u look at it, shutting out the critical/ controlling part of the brain is the key. Doesn't this sound exactly like meditation?

J Krishnamurthy just says let go of words, dont associate words with things, u will free yourself. Why? how? Its so hard to understand. Betty Edwards finally made me understand why that is. When u use words to denote something, the left brain makes a symbol out of it. If I try to draw an eye, I always draw the eye symbol that I made when I was 10. not the real eye I am seeing. When I just draw lines and shapes without identifying it as eye, I draw very accurate drawings.
Same with life situations, JK says u dont see the present u an approximation for that situation in the past and u react in the same way. It is not bad, but thats not exactly reality, is it? :) Its good to be conscious that we are doing that.

When I was trying to learn juggling, if I just saw the person doing it and copied it, I was able to do but as soon as I started thinking how, I lost it.
( I wonder how some people can think about how to do physical stuff and still do it well. my bro and husband are really good at analyzing what they are physically doing and still do it very well. They may be better communication between left/right brain, I think their left brain delegates to right when they play, just like mine delegates to right when I draw )

Art, sports, meditation, healing, astral sight obviously need this but surprisingly even math, coding, minesweeper  ( the so called left brain activities) also can be better when we let go, even writing...Its not left/right brain but its using some higher faculty in brain. getting into the zone more like.

The basic requirement of actually doing something and enjoying it seems to be to surrender. to trust ourselves to do it and let go.
To do our job and genuinely not care bout the result. Is it this they are talking about?  Must be, otherwise its just drudgery.

As of now, getting into zone happens involuntarily, those books tell me to notice the difference between not being in the zone and being in the zone and slowly u will be able to go in and out of the zone voluntarily. I did a meditation once, in which the lady was very insistent about noticing the state of consciousness, how trance is different from full awake state. So u can go into meditative state easily when u want.

I love how all this converges.

I know all this but why Am I not free? Left brain is so dominant! Switching on the "zone" is recursive, to get into the zone we shouldnt try but let go! and be in the Zone!!!  Argh!!!!!!

== from here on its for myself, I seem to need more convincing ==

I take a huge white paper and try to make random marks on it, Its so hard. I am so inhibited. Its hard to mess up a page. :) making bold strokes is hard, I always keep an eraser close. I make a small drawing in one corner. Most of the new comers in the drawing class drew small pictures  :) it takes practice to let go. once I let go, I see myself making bold strong marks in color, over writing on what is already there, not bothering to correct. things come out awesome. :) ( May be I wouldnt call it awesome at all in critical mode :) )

This BTW is not extrovert introvert thing, It  looks like it is a problem with external boldness but it isnt.  difference between being free and being bold is same as between acceptance of pain  and denial of pain. Being bold is ploughing thru inhibitions and being free is when these inhibitions are not there at all.  May be extroverts are more free... i dono.

(its not just boldness, hesitation about making marks of paper may be about our parents telling us not to waste, govt telling us not to waste paper, conservation mentality, why to use new when I can use old for practice mentality, not being confident that I will make a good drawing, all sorts of things )

Acting class
I m so awkward and not good at acting, and self conscious and embarrassed and struggling and the rest of the class is like this too. Half way thru the class ,I realise I m pretending that the chair is a toilet seat and I m smuggling it thru immigration, I am whispering and voice modulating and winking and everything and having so much fun. We are all doing so well too.. We just shut down some part of us which said we cant do it, which asks what people will think and makes us feel selfconscious and one hell of a time we had :)

Cooking
Cook is hard, I m not a good cook, I used to believe that.  I m actually a wonderful wonderful cook. Thats my latest gift ( thank u G ;). because I allowed myself to be it. I allowed myself to be gifted, Thats it.  It is allright to make mistakes, Trust that I will do well. no measurements, no recipes. Have a picture of what taste we want at the end and  I just know what to put and what will taste good. ( most times.)   When I want to recreate the same and use my brain and start thinking, Its horrible :)  even simple food dont have that magic anymore.

sometimes we let other people tell us, we are not good . I feel only when we think ourselves that we cant do well, we are not good. only then we believe  when other people tell us we are not good, so it starts in us( mostly)

Bowling
every ball was gutter ball, after throwing 4 balls into gutter, I asked them to raise the side railings so the ball wont go into gutter at all. kids mode :-( yeah I was just horrible,
but once the railings were raised, I never once touched them!???! WT... Its like fear of being horrible makes me really horrible. the more I think I should do well, the worse I become, the more I think about just having fun, things go well.

Sooooooo Excited

How to see Faeries!! Its cutest lil( not too lil) book with flaps and books inside books and things that pop out and slide out and everything! yeah yeah Its a kids book! So?! love it anyway, I want to make a book like this, those guys have had so much fun making this book!

Sun Over Mountain!!! Ah! This is such a lovely book, I havent seen any other book which told how exactly to delve into the subconscious ( without drugs and stuff that is :P)  Jessa Macbeth is awesome. She was awesome in Fairy Oracle cards and here too!
All these books compliment each other so perfectly, Sun over mountain wants me to draw but focus is on getting in touch with subconscious. Drawing with right side of the brain! wants me to get in touch with subconscious or the right side of the brain but focus is on drawing :) :) :)
And u need all this to see fairies :) :P :)
I found some beautiful fairy statues to compliment all this in charity shops..

Yupieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Amazing books!!! :D
World is a beautiful place! :)  the most beautiful place in the world is right inside our head!!! wow! The only danger is you may want to stay there and not get out!

And Oh!Oh, I also got my sketch book! Moleskin sketch book for sketching stuff! :D  hmm Ill become Monet or Van Gough soon! :P ;)

Feels like Santa was here ;-)

9 January 2013

are thoughts like ice bergs?

are thoughts like ice bergs? like they have 1/3 up and 2/3 below our conscious level?

reading Secret- which BTW is quite a  nice book, dono why it has such a bad name. anyway, it says that your feelings are indicators of what kind of thoughts u are thinking.
I noticed that some thoughts seem innocent or very short at conscious level but they have a huge emotional charge to them. that means there is lot more to that thought than what comes to mind, large part of that thought is below surface.
noticing thoughts and feelings is not that straightforward, mind!

how to actually get to the hidden part of thoughts?

Thoughts and feelings are not 1:1 and its not an easy mapping as these books lead us to believe. Thoughts dont always generate feelings, the same thought sometimes brings about feelings and sometimes not. Feelings color thoughts. If I m feeling irritated, and  I think of one non irritating person I may paint them with irritation too.. like that.
The Game: That playboy guide book, actually has a technique. The guy asks these women to imagine a time when they were very happy, Or about an ideal situation. women imagine it and start feeling good. but they attribute these good feelings to the guy who asked the question! and get hooked! serious! this was an NLP technique.
Controlling feelings is not hard, understanding them is. Its the next level of the game.
Secret is a good book, it talks of Secret shifters, music or good memory or a walk or something, which can shift ur mood instantly. once u get into the habit u may be able to shift moods without the actual shifter. It is good. but...I do want to understand and go into why the bad feelings came up in the first place. is it worth it?
actually when I feel bad now, the first reaction is dilemma, should I shift to good mood or should I try to understand this! :)

how we value life

At least how I value life
ours is most important. i.e humans > animal. mostly.
In human..babies and women more than men.
our country people more than enemy
developed country more than developing.. ( :(  not me but true for most people )
200 killed in USA v/s 10,000 in Africa

Tree more than plant more than grass  - points based on longevity/size/rarity/usefulness

intelligent animal more than dumb animal
carnivore more than herbivore.. usually this is more like  smart v/s dumb
eg: elephant is important but not cow/deer etc
shark v/s seal always seal even tho shark eats seal
so its usually smarter - more value

fish /reptile less than bird less than mammal
small size easily reproducing less than big size / slow reproducing
eg: giant turtle v/s rabbit.. giant turtle wins..
cuteness also matters to certain extent only
squirrel  cute but..
pet animals greater than  farm animals greater than wild( for villagers ) :)
wild greater than pet greater than farm - city people

insects are always low - even if huge. except may be butterfly
plants greater than insects ? rose greater than cockroach, caterpillar, even butterfly
pests weeds are the lowest - Animal and Plant pest rank equally low? cockroach - parthenium...ok, may be cockroach wins.

I wanted this put on paper before I started reading  "we love some, we hate some , we eat some" psychology of Human Animal interaction.
For now all I could gather was that feelings of humans towards animals is very murky, its not head but heart based!

Faeries

magic magic magic magic :) flying over cities at night make me feel like I m one of those old timers flying on dragons, brooms, magic carpet whatever flying over fire lit castles...magic..
(that song from alladin,,, I love that song for its picturisation)
After dreaming about and craving for dragons and castles and rocky castles on steep hilltops.. I found Simlmarillion in the book shop today :-) hard bound! Ye!! got so excited stumbled and fell! LOL :D

Edit: I went ahead and bought magical feeling  books Faeries, Faeries oracle, and another faeries book - slightly innocent one :D I sit by the river and read them, Its winter and its really spooky.. every gust of wind is spooky now :D like it, like it. winder is more magical after all! isnt it? and I like the street light also more :D when its foggy or rainy even they look like fairy lights, if u use a bit of imagination that is :)

sci-fi books

Androids/Robots/space travel/Hoover cars Its 2012 already and WHERE ARE ALL THESE THINGS!
Sci-fi Fever has hit thee - book after book after book..
60's expected a lot out of humanity and look at now... Life is still so mundane,,, ok we have internet and video chat and .. err electric cars...hey u what know what else we have?? we have no SMOKING zones!!  yeah! seriously none of those guys ever imagined that!- all their heros are smoking indoors ! and even in space crafts.... and ... what else do we have? We have health and safety :P
The point is - Man on Moon is  a Hoax! :-D  I mean look at what all we have now and Map it back to the 60's!?  If man on moon had happened 40 years ago.. now we'd have been in hyper space or what ever no?
Wiki says 12 people have landed on the moon and US had 6 landings! wow!? Why not any more... since last 40 years??
I need to investigate this - need to read up on how exactly it was done and everything, I have laughed and dismissed all the conspiracy theories untill now.. but nothing is beyond the govt's of 60's and 70's for that matter even govts now.. look at all the scams...dont trust them...

15 July 2012

Only yesterday

Studio Ghilbli does it again! sensitive and sweet!  Isao Takahata - I found him when I ran out of Miyazaki :) what good timing :-) Its not one of the popular ones.. I didnt find it in the first search - Now I dont remember where I got this from... It is soooo sweet ...quite sweet day to day with no action and nothing much happens but I still liked it so much! how come all these lil Ghilbi girls always remind me of me.. I always see myself in them, thats why I love them so much I guess...some of them are what I want to be( prinicess mononoke and sprited away) and some of them are me( whisper heart/this one)..
the lil 10 year old is the sweetest...the kids world and its lil disappointments and joys! awww sweet...
The nostalgia.. its a sweet/dull pain in my heart.. I m nostalgic for my 10 year old self and for the 60's :)
Dont dare watch Grave of fireflies.. It seems too sad...
Edit:
Although the Walt Disney Company paid for the US distribution rights as part of its deal with Studio Ghibli, executives later decided that it could not release "Only Yesterday" in the US - Disney's stated reason was because the film contained references to menstruation (a clause in Ghibli's distribution contract prohibited Disney from altering the scene to remove the references).

Duh!! WT...such prudes! :-} ( look who is talking tho ;-) )

Even after a day still feeling the warm glow.. nice.. I love love love studio Ghibli movies!!

The Game

Its a shocking and horrifying book - OK go read this book first ok!! its a must read!
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/900.The_Game

I had heard stories of mantra vaadis who gave women magic potion...
My grandma's  story -This lady didnt have children,  she went to a mantra vadi( black magician) He was an evil one. He gave her some paste - told her to eat it at night after everyone went to sleep and not tell anyone else about the whole thing.. somehow the lady forgot to take it and left it on the stone grinder - old style - rubbo kallu. and at mid night.. that stone started shaking and rumbling and rolling and went straight to mantra vadi's house!!! :D
Ok! these guys are not exactly like this but quite close!! and the techniques used - I can see how well they will work.. I think instinctively the untrained ladies men use the same techniques... I ve seen them used and work in real life! fucking awesome!  and I ve met one proper trained one as well :D

How do I actually feel about pick-up artists.. funnily enough the feminist in me is not offended..
On one side I feel, when someone is putting in sooo much effort into it and making things interesting for the girls I think they deserve to pick up someone. :-P
I mean what is the big deal when someone does gets picked up - as if!
If someone does not call the next day It shouldnt become a self esteem issue because u already know these are creeps...? every experience should lead to wedding bells! thats a stupid and old fashioned idea..no?  do they really make people(aka women) do what they dont want to do, or do they just bring down others inhibitions?
I feel every guy should learn some of these things.. I mean come on! be more interesting! ;-)  Especially the good guys out there finishing last - They are the ones who need skills like this... I think this power wont corrupt the good ones.. or Is that only me being optimistic?
I also like the way the hero is approaching the whole thing putting in so much effort and dedication into it..Its a typical under dog making it big story.

Yet.. the whole things is in one way horrifying and disgusting and unimaginably creepy.
The manipulation. its pure evil. It goes against the grain of being human.. It reminds me of a story of a mutant man boy...Golden emotion less mutant boy ( no longer human) with a computational brain. Every minute he just sees the different possibilities and where it leads him. like a chess playing computer with its decision tree...his goal is ofcourse to populate the world with his species rather than human..
These PUA(pick up artisrs)  are just like moths who mock other poison moths or owl eyes to escape from predators or those orchids which mock the bees to get pollinated. These guys mock the signs of attraction with women and get their way.

The creepiest thing was that we are so susceptible to manipulation, It is scary.. every word and sentence for a while feels  fake..How all am I getting manipulated in this world? Like the spiritual books say we are all asleep and running on auto mode :( Its not like it works on dumb people it will work better on smart ones because they are easy to hook because of their interests.  We run on patterns and instinctive behaviours... awareness is the ONLY solution to this grief of life.
Anyway reading this book make me feel less naive.. Humans are like this only some consciously doing it, many unconsciously hooking others.. to get them laid or to get that promotion or if you are a baby just to get milk :)  Funny those guys who use others patterns fall into their own.. they are not wise..

The guy mystery is a good example of how logic is not everything how logical people can twist and modify logic to validate their beliefs. Logic and reason are not much above emotions if u are not aware of emotions..
what I got out of selfish gene is very different from what that guy got out of it. quite opposite..
I felt genes are selfish, once I know this I can counter their effect.
what he got is genes are selfish, they control me, so I go with them.. he makes his purpose the same as that of his genes - duh!!! for me that was almost spritual book - pushed me more towards gender equality and helped me understand the descripencies.. but it make this man quite opposite.. women are there to spread his genes!! duh!! He is a very clever and genius type person but.. flawed!

and NLP !! god all meditation techniques are just that - NLP, exactly the same technique.. think of a happy emotion, give it a color spread it across ur body..

on the whole very interesting eye opening book, worth even  a second reading....

Miyazaki has 2 sons and no daughters!
Aww sucha pity!  He would make a really lovely dad to a daughter.. such a sweet man and his understanding of girls is just .... awww...
Paulo Coehlo - Feminist - no children :)
How come these two great artists with such beautiful hearts are such avid feminists! Aww  I m touched..
<3 * <3* <3
C S Lewis - people criticize him to be sexist and religious. I actually found him also to be a feminist, this lead is a lil girl. she is the one who almost always gets people out of trouble and Aslans favourite. I din find his books too religious or evangelic either.. :P

Devil and miss prym

Small side story in this..This is why I love Paulo coelho :-)
This old town in France was once an adda for hooligans and evil people who were lead by one Ahbab.. A saint converted them into Christianity and reformed them.
but Ahbab guy is too cool, he manages to add his own twist to the culture of this town.
He invents this ritual - forgiveness day.
Every year, one day - people of this town ask god for forgiveness for all the bad things they have done.. "God! please forgive me, I killed a man, please forgive me, I have sinned and cheated" and so on..
and then they forgive god! :D
They say I forgive u, god, for making it rain and ruining my crop, I forgive u for taking away my young son. bla bla..;-)
You forgive me and I forgive you. so now we are even :-D
