domestic animals

Reading about domestication of foxes research being done in Russia.( National geographic website - I really like them on facebook. Lot of interesting articles...)
Some scientist researching about domestication has experimented with foxes rats and some other animals.. they found that by selecting animals carefully they were able to domesticate these animals with in a few years...However they were not able to domesticate some species at all. All the breeds of domesticated species showed the same physical characteristics, even tho they were not selected based on looks at all - like floppy ears, spotted coat etc.
Also they found some of the genetic markers found in those domestiacted mammals- all of them... Hmmm.. these are also found in one kind of people with mental disorders . These are elfin people. The syndrome Williams syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_syndrome. The people with this disorder are really charming and nice.. and itseems parents of such children reported back that sometimes these children reminded them of dogs. :,-( for their uninhibited love and caring for all. :,-( Really sad.. sad for those kids and animals...two thoughts... have we created some kind of mental disorder in animals when we domesticated the species ? and are we such a sad society that nice people are considered to have mental disorders?Tare Zameen par..
hmm but I realise both of this is twisted kind of thinking- and momentary... first thought is not true because domestic dogs are intelligent and disorder word is always relative - yes in wild wolf society they are disordered but in human society aggressive dog is disordered - second is also not true - these kids not only have good nature but also have other problems like physical co-ordination etc - ..and Human society is nice enough to call them elfs and rise them above us ...
Still its all kind of sad, I feel sad for domesticated animals because they crave human contact especially that ugly old kittu dear near old house.. he used to come to me just to get petted... we have created a need in these animals...we are responsible for them. There are foxes here which are not domesticated, they live quite happily among their own kind( atleast I wud like to hope so! :) My kittens in Bangalore were almost wild I guess, they din get close to any other person other than me..ran away from home when my parents came home etc.. no wonder - I picked up the shyest kittys in that shelter... dragged them out of hiding from below some cardboard boxes :-) no one else wud probably even find them let alone pick them...I miss them :-(
Anyway We have made domestic animals like that...to be dependent on us ( emotionally I mean) we have to care for them.. we cant treat them like how Nat geo treats wild animals I mean usually they dont meddle with wild animals they just observe . I mean we have to interfere with domestic animals..control population, feed them, vaccinate them etc.. they are our responsibility..
Symbiosis between different species must have started like this, By altering both the species. Crocs get their teeth cleaned by those lil birds.. both croc and birdy genes must have changed for this right? So I think - there must be changes which happened in us ( as a species) which changed us from "killing all animals" and to "caring for a few". if I think about it -Its not so sad after all. :-) Its not that we domesticated animals.. animals must have domesticates us a lil bit too ... :-)
